This time is completely unique for everyone.

You may know exactly what you want or what your loved one’s wishes were. Or you might be unsure. It’s my priority to help create a space where you can truly honour and celebrate your loved one’s life.

The ceremony is a crucial part in your journey of grief and this is at the forefront in every element of my work and the time spent with you. I will wrap my support around you, work through unknowns, find clarity and navigate the overwhelm. To help make the impossible, feel possible.

I'll meet with you and anyone else you feel should be heard to learn your loved one's values and stories - what made them 'them'. The ceremony is written word for word by me for you - with the true essence of your loved one throughout. To celebrate their life, love and legacy.

Why choose Emma

In life’s most significant moments, it’s so important that we get it right. Everyone experiences grief differently, and I understand that your grief is unique to you. This deeply influences how you need the funeral or memorial to feel.

My role as a celebrant, goes so much further than the pen to paper crafting of the ceremony. At this time, I will stand beside you with strength and sit with you in grief. I will take my time, paying careful attention to every detail, to ensure that the day provides the next step on your journey of grief. I will be there for you every step of the way.

My Process

At this time, everything can feel very overwhelming.
I am here to help you navigate it all, step by step.

    First Meeting

We’ll sit down together so that I can get to know you, your wishes, and the key people involved. We’ll talk about your loved one, who they were, their stories, their quirks, and everything that made them unique. We’ll discuss any elements you’d like to include in the ceremony, such as music or readings. I’ll gather information to start writing the ceremony and better understand how I can support you in the weeks ahead.

    Crafting the Ceremony

During this time, you have my support over the phone or in an email – I’m there. I’ll begin crafting a bespoke ceremony, keeping your loved one and your wishes at the heart. We’ll confirm the Order of Service and plan any contributions or tributes from family or friends. Depending on your preferences, I’ll either write the eulogy or be on hand to help if a loved one is writing it. Once complete, I’ll share the ceremony with you in a way best suits you – to read in a document, listen to in a voice recording, or watch in a video call. We’ll make any adjustments, additions or amendments until it feels just right for you.

    On the Day

On the day of the funeral, I’ll arrive early to ensure everything is set up as planned. I’ll be there to greet guests and meet key people or readers. Working alongside the Funeral Director, my role is to make sure everything runs smoothly, so you don’t need to worry about a thing. I’ll guide the ceremony with care and attention, allowing you to be fully present in the moment and focus on saying your goodbye.

    In the time that follows...

The time after the funeral can be especially tough, and my support doesn’t end when the ceremony is over. I’m here for you if you need me.

    A keepsake

I’ll also provide you with a copy of the ceremony, so you can cherish your loved one’s story and revisit their legacy whenever you wish.

Trust in me

After many years working for an end-of-life charity, I am deeply committed to ensuring that the final chapter of life is treated with the dignity and respect it deserves – and that loved ones left behind get the support they need.

I carry this with me as a personal and professional goal. Outside my work as a celebrant, I volunteer to provide companionship and support for people coming to the end of their life and their carers. I also deliver bereavement support to help people through their grief with a listening ear and emotional support.

FAQs

What is a Celebrant led funeral?

A Celebrant led funeral ceremony is conducted by a funeral celebrant rather than a religious leader. Working with the loved ones of the deceased to learn of their life story, the celebrant writes a bespoke ceremony.

The focus is often on honouring the deceased’s life in a personalised way, ensuring that the ceremony reflects the beliefs, values and wishes of the deceased and their loved ones. The ceremony is not specifically tied to any specific religious doctrine but celebrants can weave in religious or cultural content and wording if that is what is wanted.
